Golf Course Evangelism

Well, despite what Pastor Steve (The Pusher) Sanchez says, Robert you CAN be a golfer and an evangelist (Pusher, I am giving you a hard time. :-) ). However, in my home town, I am getting more and more nervous about doing it because I already have shared with a bunch of the regulars, and have been frustrated at some level with the response. I have even sensed a kind of standoffish attitude from some of them towards me. Good thing I am dense! Please pray that I will be bold as I golf.
Anyhow, today I was feeling an inordinate amount of fear, but I also knew I had to be obedient. I prayed, and headed off to the course. I continued praying as I went into the parking lot and unloaded my golf stuff. I prayed that someone would invite me into their group, and that God would open doors as I was invited.

Well, I was invited into a group of guys I had golfed with before, and one guy (“Snake”) that I didn’t know. Unfortunately, we were in different carts. I resigned myself to begin by placing tracts into divot repair buckets, as pictured here. I continued praying for an ‘in’.

It was the 13th hole when I got it. One of the group pulled out a Mind Game tract I had left during an earlier round. They began to do the trick with each other on the tee box. Snake was taken in by this trick, and after a few looks, finally figured it out. He took it to show to his wife. I began to pray again, asking God to have him look at it. He was reading it as he waited for the others to tee off! My heart sank when he began to tell the others that they had to read it, because it talked about lust, adultery, and lying. They all laughed, and I was discouraged, but I continued to pray. He kept on looking at it, I noticed him reading it at different times! It still was hard getting a conversation going across carts, but the tract was doing the job.

He took it home, and I hope he and his wife read it again and again and that the Holy Spirit does His work. Pray for Snake and His wife! Also, pray that I will have a compassion for these lost golfers that consumes my fear.
